Instructions for Preparing Your Quilt Top
Please make sure your quilt top is square as much as possible.
Please iron your quilt top, making sure your seams are pressed flat (not open). (There is an extra charge of $25 if I need to iron your quilt top)
Please trim threads on the front, back, and edges because they can show up in the light areas of the quilt.
If your quilt is directional, please identify the tope of the quilt with a safety pin.
If your quilt has curved corners, please do not cut the curves until the quilt is finished.
When adding borders to your quilt top, measure through each side and the middle of your quilt, take an average of those measurements and cut your side borders to that average length. You may need to ease the quilt to fit the borders. After you’ve sewn your side borders, measure the top, bottom and middle of your quilt, take an average of those measurements, and cut your top and bottom borders to that average length and sew on those borders, again easing the quilt to fit those borders. Here’s a great tutorial on how to do this: https://sewcanshe.com/how-to-add-quilt-borders-the-correct-way/
Please do not add any embellishments prior to quilting as then can damage the quilting needle.
If you are providing backing
Backing fabric should be 100% cotton, but I will consider other high quality fabrics, such as good quality flannel or minky.
The backing must be 10 inches larger in width and length of your quilt top. For example, if your quilt top measures 70 x 90 inches, your built backing must measure 80 x 100 inches. If you need to piece your backing, it is best to use ½ inch seam. Also please trim selvages prior to seaming. Selvages may be left on the outer perimeter of the baciing.
